A 25-year-old sweet stall owner was arrested for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl, who lived nearby, in South Mumbai on Friday.
Police said that when the girl was playing outside her home on Friday evening, the accused allegedly called her to his shop on the pretext of giving her chocolates. He took her inside the shop and sexually assaulted her, before letting her go.
The girl rushed home and narrated the incident to her parents. "The accused lured the minor offering her chocolates. He touched her private parts when she entered his roadside stall," said an officer of MRA Marg police station.
The officer said that they have arrested the accused within half-an-half of registering the case. Police are getting details of the accused to find out if he has sexually assaulted any other minor in the locality.
The man has been booked under the Indian Penal Code section 376 (rape) and under sexual assault sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was produced before the court and has been remanded in police custody till December 8.
