Uttarakhand: Taekwondo coach gets 10 year jail for rape

A special sessions court has awarded ten years’ imprisonment to a Taekwondo coach from Pithoragarh for raping a minor. The court also sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment under the POCSO Act. The man, Rakesh Giri, will serve the sentences concurrently.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. The girl had alleged that Giri raped her multiple times in 2014 when she went to learn Taekwondo from him. Giri was later selected for Uttarakhand police and was at present under training in Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar.
